چکیده

We consider frequency control in power systems made of several non-synchronous AC areas connected by a multi-terminal high-voltage direct current (HVDC) grid. We propose two HVDC control schemes to make the areas collectively react to power imbalances, so that individual areas can schedule smaller power reserves. The first scheme modifies the power injected by each area into the DC grid as a function of frequency deviations of neighboring AC areas. The second scheme changes the DC voltage of each converter as a function of its own area’s frequency only, relying on the physical network to obtain a collective reaction. For both schemes, we prove convergence of the closed-loop system with heterogeneous AC areas. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Photovoltaic Microgrids Control by the Cooperative Control of Multi-Agent Systems

This paper presents a cooperative control which is applied to the secondary control of a microgrid controlled via a multi-agent scheme. Balancing power that leads to voltage and frequency stability in a microgrid is essential. The voltage and frequency regulations are limiting within the specified limits and conveying them to their nominal values. Limiting and conveying the voltage and frequenc...

DC Voltage Control and Power-Sharing of Multi-Terminal DC Grids Based on Optimal DC Power Flow and Flexible Voltage Droop Strategy

This paper develops an effective control framework for DC voltage control and power-sharing of multi-terminal DC (MTDC) grids based on an optimal power flow (OPF) procedure and the voltage-droop control. In the proposed approach, an OPF algorithm is executed at the secondary level to find optimal reference of DC voltages and active powers of all voltage-regulating converters. Then, the voltage ...

Frequency Support Using Multi-terminal HVDC Systems Based on DC Voltage Manipulation

This paper investigates the use of multi-terminal HVDC systems to provide primary frequency support to connected AC networks via coordinated DC voltage manipulation. Control schemes for multi-terminal HVDC systems to allow redistribution of active power, based on the idea of “power priority” are proposed. Inertia response from DC connected large offshore wind farms can also be incorporated base...

Design and Simulation of a New DC Power Supply Based on Dual Bridge Matrix Converter

A conventional high power DC power supply systems consist of a three-phase diode rectifier followed by a high frequency converter to supply loads at regulated DC voltage. These rectifiers draw significant harmonic currents from the utility, resulting in poor input power factor. In this paper, a DC power supply based on dual-bridge matrix converter (DBMC) with reduced number of switches is p...
